(11th–13th century)
The project examines in a comparative perspective of the main written sources for the history of the nomadic tribes, which inhabited the western part of the Eurasian Steppe Belt in the dynamic period between 11th – 14th century. During most of this time span the steppes on the border between Asia and Europe were dominated by the members of the Cuman-Qïpchaq tribal community. After its political collapse in the mid-13th century, the Mongol Empire expanded over these territories. The project aims at exploring the sources for the history of the Eurasian nomads in Central Asia and Eastern Europe before and after the appearance of the Mongols. It is expected that in this way both the parallel and the divergent trajectories in the behavior of the nomadic groups in the Balkans and in the Bulgarian Tzardom will be highlighted. Thus, the patterns of behavior of the nomadic tribes in the peninsula will be examined in the context of sources that stem from completely different written cultures and civilizational background. This way our knowledge for the Eurasian nomads in South East Europe will be extended and new interpretations of their behavior will be offered.

Teaching

20.02.2015 – 15.06.2015
„Turks and Mongols in Anatolia, Iran, and Central Asia in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Times”, Centre for Eastern Languages and Studies, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria

01.10.2014 – 20.01.2015
„Ethnogenesis of the Turkic peoples in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Times”, Centre for Eastern Languages and Studies, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria

Languages

LANGUAGE

Reading

Speaking

Writing

Bulgarian

Майчин език

English

Excellent

Excellent

Excellent

Russian

Excellent

Good

Basic

Turkish

Excellent

Very Good

Very Good

Persian

Very Good

Basic

Good

Old Church Slavonic

Good

–

–

Latin

Good

–

–

Ottoman-Turkish

Good

–

–

Ancient Greek

Basic

–

–

3.
